Washing your clothes gently: the secrets of a simple and natural laundry detergent

Mise en avant savonnette
Washing machine recipe for coloured and delicate laundry: Marseille soap flakes made in Provence in the pure tradition will allow you to wash your delicate laundry by hand or in the machine.

Linen is an essential part of our daily lives. Sheets, clothes, towels, or baby clothes: everything that touches the skin deserves special attention.

For a long time, our grandparents used only a few simple ingredients to care for their laundry. No endless lists of additives or artificial perfumes, just soap, hot water and a little know-how.

Even today, it is possible to rediscover this simplicity thanks to homemade laundry detergent made from natural soap flakes.

Why choose a soap-based laundry detergent?

Soap is one of the oldest cleaning agents used for laundry. Its simple composition allows it to effectively clean textiles while being gentler on the fibers.

A soap-based laundry detergent is particularly suitable:

  • For delicate laundry
  • To everyday clothes
  • To the household linen
  • To the colored textiles
  • For people looking for a simpler formula

Combined with bicarbonate, soap helps remove dirt while leaving laundry clean and fresh.

Homemade laundry detergent recipe

For approximately 3 liters of laundry detergent:

  • 100g of natural soap flakes
  • 100 g of bicarbonate
  • Hot water

Pour the wood chips and baking soda into a container. Gradually add hot water, mixing until you obtain a consistency similar to pancake batter.

Next, transfer the mixture into a clean container and then fill with hot water until you reach approximately 3 liters.

Allow to cool before use.

How do I use it?

Like any natural preparation, the laundry detergent may separate slightly when left to stand.

Before each use, shake or mix the container to obtain a homogeneous texture.

Then pour the equivalent of one capful, or about 30 to 50 ml, into the detergent drawer of your washing machine.

To preserve your washing machine and naturally soften laundry, you can use a white vinegar-based fabric softener in the compartment provided for this purpose.

Some tips for brilliantly white laundry

  • Wash at low temperatures when possible.
  • Sort by color and delicate fabrics.
  • Avoid overdosing: a small amount is usually sufficient.
  • For stubborn stains, apply a little damp soap directly before washing.

Back to basics

Making your own laundry detergent means reconnecting with simple gestures that have been passed down through generations.

A few ingredients, a few minutes of preparation and the pleasure of knowing exactly what goes into your laundry care.

Because taking care of your laundry can also be a way of taking care of your home, your family, and the environment around you.
